Kitchener Park

Kitchener Park

Kitchener Park in Feilding is the last remaining remnant of ancient podocarp swamp forest in the region with unique species.

Manawatu / Whanganui

The Awahuri Forest Trust aims to restore and re-plant in the Park after devastating flood damage in 2006 killed many ancient trees. Using volunteers to rid the park of weed infestation and fundraising for flood protection are the first steps in protecting this unique bio-diversity.

In the six months since our conception by the Manawatu District Council, the trust has been involved in research and planning. It has established a team of gardeners to mend boardwalks and tidy storm damage.
