KiwiHarvest

KiwiHarvest

KiwiHarvest is New Zealand's largest food rescue social venture. We collect good food before it goes to waste and get it to those in need.

Nationwide

Approximately one third of food produced worldwide is wasted every year. It’s estimated that New Zealand industry generates more than 103,000 tonnes of food waste annually, and that 60% of the food going to landfill is edible. All this is happening while one in five Kiwi children are living without adequate access to good, nutritious food.

KiwiHarvest was set up as the solution to these two major issues – good food ending up in landfill and the rising rates of food insecurity in NZ, only exacerbated with the recent affects of the Auckland Anniversary Floods and Cyclone Gabrielle.

We work with food businesses, including supermarkets, wholesalers, producers, cafes, restaurants, and hotels, to rescue the good food that they are not able to sell - whether that is because of oversupply, damaged packaging, cancelled orders, mislabeling, or because the food is nearing its best before date.

We operate out of five branches including Auckland (North Shore and East Tamaki), Queenstown, Dunedin and Invercargill. Our drivers and volunteers then deliver this food straight out to our network of over 240 recipient charities across the country, enabling them to provide fresh, nutritious food for those in need, all free of charge.
