Glenfern Sanctuary is a predator controlled area on Great Barrier Island in the Hauraki gulf of New Zealand, where threatened and endangered species. We provide a constantly monitored, pest controlled safe-haven for all local native species including the endangered black petrel, cook's petrel, brown teal and chevron skink. There are 6km of public walking tracks with interprative signs and a visitors centre for the public with an education program for regular visiting school groups.
15,000 native trees planted from locally sourced seed, propogated on site.
Installation of Xcluder pest proof fence
50 kms of tracks and 2500 dedicated stations as part of an exhaustive monitoring/eradication program. Reintroduction of locally extinct species such as North Island Robin and Cook's petrel.
