We are a group of volunteers who work to protect and restore the dunes and back dunes throughout the Kūaotunu coastal area.
Kūaotunu, Waikato
The Kuaotunu Dune Care Group (KDCG) was established around 2019 and became a charitable organisation in April 2022. We are a group of volunteers who are connected to Kuaotunu Beach on the Eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula, and nearby coastline. We are passionate about the regeneration, restoration and maintenance of the dune lands in our area. We gather monthly to weed and maintain the dunes, along with holding regular planting bees. The local community are actively encouraged to come along and join us at these events. They provide a great opportunity to become involved with the community, meet new people, and learn about our precious dunes and how they can best be protected with the planting of native coastal plants. We have a small committee who work hard to coordinate the work required, along with applications for funding. Funds are required for plants, weed control, assistance with maintenance beyond what the volunteers can provide, and minimal general administrative costs. We work in collaboration with the Thames Coromandel District Council (TCDC) Coastal Care Coordinator. Take a look at our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/kuaotunudunecare.inc to see more of the work that is being done to protect our dunes and beach. We would be very appreciative if you can donate to our group to assist us in continuing this important work.
We are a group of volunteers based in Kuaotunu, on the Coromandel Peninsula. We work together to protect our beach, minimise our impact, and make our coastline a safe place for the plants and animals that call it home.
