At Kura Kai, our kaupapa is simple, we provide a freezer to High Schools and then groups of local volunteers cook delicious hearty meals to donate and fill the freezer 1-2 times per term.
One of our Kura Kai coordinators will deliver the meals and from there the school manages all communication and distribution of these meals.
Some teachers have been cooking and serving meals at school, many have been sending them home with rangatahi/youth, while others are taking them to whanau when conducting home visits.
The feedback we have received so far has been incredible and this support and relief has been well received by so many families throughout our Kura.
Our volunteers pay for all their own ingredients, foil trays and donate the cooked meals along with their time to this initiative. Kura Kai fundraisers to purchase and donate the chest freezers to selected kura/school.
We feel very honoured to be able to be helping our rangatahi this way and hope that these meals will give them and their whanau just one more reason to stay in school and focus on their education.
We are currently fundraising to be able to buy a more freezers, to pay for a website and branding set up, purchase freezing meal trays for our volunteers and cover some petrol costs for our area coordinators that drive around collecting meals.
The schools we are currently in are:
Manurewa High School
Wainuiomata High School
Haeata Community School
Te Puke High School
Fraser High School
Bishop Viard College
Your support would be hugely appreciated..

Youth workers at Aotea College in Porirua happy to receive a Kura Kai frozen meal delivery and top up of their freezer the other day. We get so much feedback from our High Schools that by having a Kura Kai freezer and ongoing meal deliveries from our volunteers have benefited their students and their whanau in so many ways. So thank you all for the constant support of our mahi.
