We need to raise $450k to buy a property in Le Bons Bay, Banks Peninsula, and thereafter to manage and maintain it for public access.
Le Bons Bay, Canterbury
The Le Bons Bay Conservation Trust has been formed because of a strong desire from many local people to promote and enable the conservation of the local environment within the Bay.
As of 10th September we have raised $180K towards this from direct donations. Givealittle is a great platform to support this fundraising.
Our initial specific vision is to purchase the 39 hectare Old Wharf Road property that forms a triangle of land running up Dalglish Rd from the bottom of the hill, up to the summit directly above the Le Bons bay beach, with the river being the bottom boundary.
If we are not successful in raising enough money to complete the purchase through all our avenues of fundraising. We will notify you directly by email and give you the option for a refund of the money we have received (your donation, less Givealittle fees) After 60 days, any unclaimed funds will be donated to the Hinewai reserve, another local land conservation project, and charitable trust.
The Le Bons Bay Conservation Trust has a vision is to purchase 39 hectare Old Wharf Road property in Le Bons Bay, and create a reserve, protecting native flora and fauna, and allowing walking access to the public.
Any money will be spent on the purchase of the property, and thereafter on restoration of the land and access for the public.
The Point of Purchase 28 March 2025
Kia ora friends and supporter, we are delighted to announce we have reached the $450k mark and can successfully purchase the land !
We couldnt have done it without you, so take a bow, pat yourself on the back and know you have contributed to the protection of a wonderful block of conservation land, that will be protected in perpetuity.
Of course like all these projects, we will continue to need financial support, as we work to re-establish a good, safe walking track, and deal with pest plants and animals. . . .so dont be shy, if you still want to donate.
At the end of the month, we will retire this Givealittle page, but we will start a new one, details will be posted on the entrance way of the land in Le Bons, so anyone enjoying the reserve can donate.
You can always find us on FB or our website 'le bons bay conservation trust' .
Once again huge thanks for your amazing generosity, what a fabulous community of supporters you are.
Ngā mihi nui.
