Who Are We?

Massive Theatre Company is a professional physical ensemble company, creating new theatre with emerging and professional actors, directors and writers. Our work comes from real stories, reflecting the rich diversity of Aotearoa.

Founded by Samantha Scott MNZM in 1991, we are also a leading company in developing both our emerging and professional artists. Through access to free workshops and ongoing mentoring/training, emerging artists are able to become a part of the company from age fourteen and stay with us throughout their professional career.

Massive is a pathway, a whānau and a way to create excellent theatre. We believe theatre is a great way to share, and for people to make real heart to heart connections with each other.

Why Support Us?

With the latest COVID lockdowns, Massive has taken a huge hit with the cancellation of shows, workshops and other activities. The past 18 months have challenged us to find new ways of working and staying engaged with our communities. To ensure we can still continue our mahi, we’ve adapted our workshop programmes to online platforms, created and shared new video content and have maintained our connections with the wider Massive whānau who are the beating heart of our community.

We pride ourselves on our resilience, curiosity and sense of connection throughout all we do. We are respectfully asking our Massive friends, whānau, fans and audiences to consider gifting us their support as we navigate through these new pathways. Any donations we receive will help us to mitigate lost revenue, honour our artist contracts and ensure that we can continue our vision to develop resilient and dynamic performing arts practitioners, creating theatre which enriches, affirms and inspires diverse participants in Aotearoa and internationally.
