We are the only organisation in New Zealand that supports people living with Motor Neurone Disease, their carers and families.
Auckland
Motor Neurone Disease NZ is a charitable trust dedicated to making time count for people living with MND, and funding research and clinical trials for a future without MND. We are a registered charity under the Charities Act 2005, registration number CC60169.
Established in 1985, Motor Neurone Disease NZ works to enable people living with motor neurone disease (MND) to have the best quality of life for as long as possible. We do this through providing free personalised practical, emotional, and social support, and providing accurate and reliable information about MND so those affected can best manage their journey through the often-rapid progression of the disease.
We are the only organisation providing free community-based support to people with MND in New Zealand.
We also support carers, other family members, and associated health professionals. There are at least twelve people directly involved with the organisation for every one of our MND clients. At present we have just over 400 clients around the country. This means we are in fact supporting almost 5000 people nationwide.
We support people living with MND.
This includes people who have Motor Neurone Disease their families and caregivers and the
Health Professionals who support them.
We aim to:
• Co-ordinate and provide up-to-date information
• Provide emotional, social and practical support
• Advocate for the needs of people living with MND
• Develop awareness and understanding of MND
• Encourage research
