Support for our volunteer lifeguard service operational costs to keep our community safe now and into the future.
Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty
The Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service (MMLS) has been keeping the public safe on and around our beaches for 95 years, 365 days a year. We patrol one of the countries busiest and often challenging coastlines and our volunteers dedicate their free time to training, learning and practicing their skills to ensure that you and your family get to go home safely. Please help us invest in our volunteers lifeguard service and keep our community safe.
Our 500 members are dedicated to volunteer lifeguarding, Junior Surf, Lifesaving Sport and land-based rescue services on and around Main Beach, Mauao and Pilot Bay. Our volunteer surf lifeguards spent 4,800 hours patrolling our beaches in the 2023 - 2024 season; performing 14 rescues (lives saved), assisting 37 people with major first aid, and over 5,767 preventative actions carried out during patrol hours - ensuring every beach user and visitor who came to our beach returned home, achieving the Surf Lifesaving New Zealand target of zero drownings this past season.
We are extremely proud of the work we do, the dedication and commitment to our community by our volunteers, and were recognised this as the winner of the Bay of Plenty area Overall Club of The Year, at the recent Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) Bay of Plenty and Coromandel Awards of Excellence in July 2024.
Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service provides volunteer lifeguarding and rescue services on and around Mount Beach, Mauao and Pilot Bay from Labour weekend to Easter Weekend, while our Search and Rescue Squad responds to incidents 24/7, 365 days per year.
