Help Keep Mount Maunganui Beaches Safe
For 97 years, the Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service (MMLS) has protected our community - 365 days a year. We patrol one of New Zealand’s busiest and most challenging coastlines. Every summer, thousands of families, locals and visitors enjoy our beach coastline. What many don’t see are the early mornings, long patrol hours, constant training, and the dedicated volunteers who give up their free time so others can enjoy the water safely.
We are a not-for-profit charity powered by more than 700 members who support volunteer lifeguarding, Junior Surf, Lifesaving sport, and Rescue Services across our coastline. Every dollar makes a direct difference to the safety of our community.
In the 2024–2025 season alone, our volunteer surf lifeguards:
Contributed 4,800 patrol hours
Performed 14 rescues (lives saved)
Delivered 54 major first aid treatments
Carried out 241 preventative actions
While our lifeguards are volunteers, we need your help as keeping our beaches safe is not free.
Your donation helps fund:
Lifesaving and Rescue equipment
Training and qualifications for volunteers
Patrol operations and emergency response support
Junior Surf programmes to train the next generation of lifeguards
If you value the work of our lifeguards and want to support them, and the next generation who will follow in their footsteps, we warmly welcome your support. By donating, you’re standing behind your local lifeguards and helping keep our beaches safe for everyone.
Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service provides volunteer lifeguarding and rescue services on and around Mount Beach, Mauao and Pilot Bay from Labour weekend to Easter Weekend, while our Search and Rescue Squad responds to incidents 24/7, 365 days per year.
