Nga Reanga e Toru - 3 Generations Trust: When it comes to literacy, the earlier we start the better
Bay of Plenty
The Trust runs literacy programmes for preschoolers living in poverty. We work to increase their literacy so they begin school achieving at the same level as children from higher socio-economic areas. We also provide education resources to our tamariki as some of their homes are without books, pencils and educational toys.
Hard data and anecdotal evidence show the success of the programmes. The increased literacy education in their preschool years means the children have a solid foundation from which to grow their academic achievements. Most importantly, our tamariki start school confident in their ability to learn. This belief in themselves goes beyond the classroom. It opens up a lifetime of possibilities.
Nga Reanga e Toru - 3 Generations Trust was founded in 2013. Our mission is to achieve literacy parity in the Bay of Plenty within three generations. We believe we can do this, but only with the will and support of the people of the Bay of Plenty.
We believe the children we work with will play a significant role in determining the social and economic future of our region. We must give them the education, and the opportunities, to provide the very best for the Bay of Plenty and its people.
