NZ Foundation for Conductive Education

Conductive Education (CE) is a holistic rehabilitation programme which aims to enhance the quality of life for people who have disabilities - it is particularly effective for motor disorders such as Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's disease and post stroke conditions.

CE teaches people with motor disorders to coordinate their movements and achieve greater independence and self confidence in their everyday lives. Its holistic nature aims to improve all areas - physical skills (sitting, crawling, standing, walking), hand function, cognitive (knowledge, memory, problem solving), self-care skills (dressing, undressing, eating, personal hygiene), social/communication and independence skills.

CE is based on the theory that in spite of significant damage, the brain is capable of modifying its connections or re-wiring itself - this is known as neuroplasticity.

We provide early intervention for babies and pre-schoolers, school age programmes and adult programmes. Our rehabilitation specialist "Conductors" work alongside other professionals as part of a trans disciplinary team - we are a one stop shop! CE supports the whole family, recognising the importance of family-centred practice.

CE is certainly not a miracle cure - it is most effective when it is seen as a way of life with what is being learnt practiced as part of daily living.
