Helping Kiwis learn and experience the joy of saxophone
Nationwide
The New Zealand Saxophone Society started in 2016 and we became a registered charity in 2017 (CC54037). The society was created by a group of saxophone players who loved their instrument, were passionate about music, and wanted to share it with the world. We encourage and enable people, especially young people and educators, to play, understand, and appreciate this beautiful instrument.
We want players at all levels to play together and learn from each other. From young people just starting, to university music students, and adult learners. Everyone is welcome! We also want to bring players from all over the world to New Zealand, so everyone can learn different ways of playing without the huge expense of going overseas.
Since 2016, we have organised the annual New Zealand Saxophone Summer School (except in 2020 due to COVID). We have brought tutors from Australia, Spain, Portugal, and Norway! We not only share their beautiful music with the students, but we always organise a concert for everyone to enjoy. Over 100 students have joined the school!
The Society is run by volunteers, and the tutors teaching at our events do it often for free or at a much-reduced fee to make the events as accessible as possible. But there are always costs, especially if we bring tutors from oversees. All your donations directly go into reducing the fees the participants need to pay for our educational events, so everyone, independently of their financial situation, can join and enjoy them.
At New Zealand Saxophone Society, we encourage and enable people, especially young people and educators, to play, understand, and appreciate the beautiful saxophone music.
