Canterbury

In November 2019 we were excited to find a building to expand and launch the NZ Museum of Toys & Collectibles in the CBD of Christchurch. It was a big step especially with rent of $200,000 but we believed we had something special. 3 months later when Covid 19 hit we had no option but to push forward and finally in July 2020 we managed to open to an enthusiastic local audience. As the region opened up to other NZ tourists we saw an increase in numbers but we are still only at 50% of what we need to survive.

With the help of the Govt Wage Subsidy we managed to keep our staff employed as they still are to date but we have received no Covid support in terms of our rent and we have exhausted our personal funds which have to date covered all shortages.

We love the museum, we love the reaction we get from people who have been through whether they are young families, grandparents with children or adults of all ages. People love to see things they remember and the trip down memory lane consistently puts a smile on faces.

We want to keep supporting our local community by having reasonable entrance fees and providing discounts for community groups, free passes for carers, and providing display areas for both loan and donated toys from around NZ, but we need your help.

Our reviews are positive, we know we are onto something special and we know that when the borders are fully open we will get the numbers we need - we just have to survive until then.

We know that there are hundreds of great causes out there and people who need help so we appreciate you taking the time to read about us and if you are able to help us we are incredibly grateful - every $ will make a difference.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
