We adopted out Johnny as a happy, well adjusted, confident deaf puppy. Sent off with advice, support and a great training foundation from Barbara at Chopper's Dog Training NZ When I saw a video of Johnny I literally could not stop crying.Johnny was walking on the kitchen bench, the dining table, jumping and mouthing people, unable to be walked as it was too hard getting lead and harness on. He was never shown right from wrong nor had he ever been left alone. EVER!A trainer was bought in and told “if he doesn’t obey, make him do the walk of shame” which was grab his collar and drag him round in circles. He was tethered, locked away, constantly blamed, always told he was naughty. After asking many times Johnny was surrendered back to us.We sent him off to board n train, unfortunately they were not equipped to deal with Johnny’s needs so he came home to me. I won’t lie, it’s been bloody hard. Trying to undo all the damage and learnt behaviours. As well as being emotionally traumatised, hurt, confused, scared, stressed he also has some physical issues to address. I spent a few weeks sleeping in the garage with him, letting him know he was safe and heard. He now sleeps by himself all night. All of this trauma could have been prevented. Some people have asked “Is it worth it putting so much effort into one dog?” The answer is clearly YES. So if you believe Johnny deserves his second chance like I do, please help us out.
