Auckland
When you look into a dog's eyes and you see nothing but despair, hurt, sadness, pain and defeat, this will haunt your dreams until you find a way to save them. This is what we do at Paws restart. We stand up for those dogs who have no voice, for those dogs who have been beaten into submission, for those dogs who have been abandonded, for those dogs who have been dumped in a rubbish tip, for those puppies ripped away from their mama, for those dogs who have spent their life on a chain and for those dogs who don't seem to matter, whether they are 2 day old puppies or 14 year old seniors, we see you. We are all volunteers, we hear these dogs voices, we feel their pain. We promise them we will rescue them, rehabilitate them and rehome them. We promise them we will do it with love, compassion, understanding, patience, kindness, care and respect. We can't do this on our own, we need people with hearts that hurt like ours when they see our beautiful companions being hurt. We need you to stand beside us and be their voice. Your donation helps with our vet bills, our trainers, food, supplies and rescue expenses.
Paws Restart Animal Rescue believes in standing up for those dogs and puppies that have no voice. Run by volunteers, we see the abandonded, the abused, the neglected, the chained and the unwanted. We promise to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome with love, kindness, compassion, care, honesty and respect.
Johnny 23 September 2025
We adopted out Johnny as a happy, well adjusted, confident deaf puppy. Sent off with advice, support and a great training foundation from Barbara at Chopper's Dog Training NZ When I saw a video of Johnny I literally could not stop crying.Johnny was walking on the kitchen bench, the dining table, jumping and mouthing people, unable to be walked as it was too hard getting lead and harness on. He was never shown right from wrong nor had he ever been left alone. EVER!A trainer was bought in and told “if he doesn’t obey, make him do the walk of shame” which was grab his collar and drag him round in circles. He was tethered, locked away, constantly blamed, always told he was naughty. After asking many times Johnny was surrendered back to us.We sent him off to board n train, unfortunately they were not equipped to deal with Johnny’s needs so he came home to me. I won’t lie, it’s been bloody hard. Trying to undo all the damage and learnt behaviours. As well as being emotionally traumatised, hurt, confused, scared, stressed he also has some physical issues to address. I spent a few weeks sleeping in the garage with him, letting him know he was safe and heard. He now sleeps by himself all night. All of this trauma could have been prevented. Some people have asked “Is it worth it putting so much effort into one dog?” The answer is clearly YES. So if you believe Johnny deserves his second chance like I do, please help us out.
