The penguins are busy selecting their nest sites and preparing for egg lay which is often around the equinox - 21st September. Fingers crossed for a good season

Yesterday while on our rounds we found 2 eggs pipping! This means chicks very soon!!
We are all prepared for the next breeding season to start. We are all trained up in our Diptheria Protocols and have everything possible mosquito proofed and all standing water removed or treated for mosquitoe larvae in our bid to avoid Malaria! Fingers crossed 🤞
We are hoping for chicks in in morning. We have 41 nests this season. Down on last year so we will have to be more vigilant this year!
Winter is a great time for the penguins. They have no eggs or chicks to worry about so after fishing for the day they often come home and all hang out together and have beach parties. Some of the males have been making nests in the boxes for their beloved partners when they return. Also at this time of the our volunteers are busy planting trees and keeping all the trees trimmed and weeds down so the penguins have easy access to all their breeding areas. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to these amazing penguins
