Celebrating 20 years of South Asian theatre in Aotearoa — help us create the next chapter of stories, artists, and community.
Auckland
For 20 years, Prayas Theatre has been Aotearoa New Zealand's dedicated home for South Asian theatrical arts. What started as a small community initiative has grown into a registered charity producing professional theatre, developing emerging artists, and bringing diverse stories to Auckland stages.
We've just celebrated our 20th anniversary with three sold-out nights — and now we're looking ahead to the next twenty years. Our vision is to deepen our impact: more ambitious productions, stronger artist development pathways, and wider community engagement through workshops and education.
As a not-for-profit, we rely on the generosity of our community to make this work possible. Government arts funding covers some of our costs, but donations directly support the things that matter most — paying artists fairly, making theatre accessible, hiring venues, and running the programs that connect our communities through storytelling.
Whether you're a longtime supporter or discovering us for the first time, your contribution helps ensure South Asian stories continue to be told on Aotearoa stages. Every dollar makes a difference.
Prayas Theatre celebrates and advances South Asian theatrical arts in Aotearoa New Zealand through professional productions, artist development, and community engagement — bridging cultures and creating space for stories that need to be told.
