Recreate NZ provides life-changing experiences for youth with disabilities across Aotearoa

Recreate New Zealand is a unique and innovative Charitable Trust established in 2002. Our Kaupapa is all about life-changing experiences for young people with disabilities. We do this through the provision of quality adventure, recreation, social and education programmes.

We seek to benefit all New Zealanders by enabling inclusive communities, where disabled people are supported to achieve everyday goals, and are regarded as valued members of society.

Recreate currently works with over 750 families and their young people, offering over 5,000 opportunities each year across a range of programmes in the Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, Bay of Plenty and Christchurch regions.

We facilitate programmes that support individual social learning, as well as educating the community so they feel more comfortable with neurodiversity. In doing so, we aim to remove access barriers that obstruct participation and inclusion.

Raised funds go directly to the provision of more meaningful opportunities for our community of awesome young people. We invite you to join our Recreate waka, and help us create more ‘life-changing experiences for young people with disabilities’.

This donation is in honor of Sally Davis’s 4 years of service in Recreate’s Christchurch office, 3 of those years serving as Lead Program Coordinator. Sally had a wonderful experience making a difference in Recreaters’ lives and is especially proud of the sense of community she created in the office as well as with the participants and their families. In part inspired by her time spent at Recreate, Sally has returned to the USA to pursue a Masters degree in Educational Psychology to further help children and young adults in a new setting. We were fortunate enough to get to meet some of Sally’s delightful Recreaters and coworkers earlier this year and hope that Ella and her Christchurch team will be able to put this money to good use for something special in Sally’s name. Kia Ora, our Enablement Network, Te Ahei Whanui hosted a fundraising bake sale at our offices around the country for the International Persons with Disabilities on the 3rd of December. We chose Recreate as the charity to fundraise for as we are all very inspired by the mahi that you do across the country!
