    Ahead of International Women’s Day (8 March), we’re recognising the women living and working on the invisible frontlines of conflict.

    Women like Kseniya in Ukraine and Heba in Syria, who work with us to support families living through conflict.

    Women like those we deliver aid to - mothers and community leaders whose voices are too often silenced by crisis.

    Today, 1 in 6 women live 50kms from active conflict, and women and girls face disproportionate risks during war, including increased violence, displacement and loss of access to healthcare and education.

    This year’s IWD theme is #GiveToGain - encouraging support, resources and solidarity so women everywhere can gain safety and opportunity.

    At ReliefAid, this means delivering life-saving aid to women and families facing the realities of war.

    As the world feels increasingly shaped by conflict, we also see extraordinary courage - women continuing to lead, support their communities and help others survive.

    Our work continues:

    • Gaza: delivering clean drinking water to displaced families.

    • Ukraine: providing home-repair materials so frontline families can weatherproof damaged homes during the coldest winter in 15 years.

    • Syria: distributing safe cooking stoves through Fire for Life.

    • Afghanistan: supporting education through Wings2Learn, supplying heating fuel and learning materials to schools.

  • What Your Support Made Possible in 2025! Thank you.

    Thanks to your support, 2025 has been our biggest year yet, with aid reaching those who need it most.

    We supported over 450,000 people this year and extended our work to a fifth country, Lebanon - all made possible by your support and the tireless efforts of our teams.

    A year after the collapse of the Assad regime, Syria is changing, though recovery remains long. From emergency aid in 2015 to our BounceBack4Syria programme today, we have walked this journey alongside the Syrian people and remain hopeful for the future.

    In Afghanistan, our Wings2Learn programme continues to provide essential education supplies. This year, we reached our biggest school yet, and with your support, this work continues. Following the August earthquakes, your support enabled us to deliver food to some of the hardest-to-reach communities, demonstrating the real impact of your support.

    In Gaza, continuing safe drinking water distributions remains critical. Through war and ceasefire, our teams have worked every day to support families enduring unimaginable hardship.

    And in Ukraine, while war continues, so does the determination of communities to rebuild. Our teams have delivered vital reconstruction supplies, and with no clear end to the conflict, your support is needed more than ever.

    None of this would have been possible without your humanity.

    In Gaza, the recent ceasefire deal has brought little sense of safety. Airstrikes continue across the strip, and aid trucks enter in restricted amounts. Despite this, our team in Gaza continues their dedication to deliver safe drinking water to families. This is made possible by you.

    In Ukraine, the winter is approaching fast. Countless communities continue to carry the load of damaged homes due to ongoing airstrikes. With our home repair distributions, it is your support that ensures homes are weatherproofed ahead of the winter.

    In Syria, BounceBack4Syria programme continues, ahead of the winter break. As some families begin their return to their homes from which they were displaced, many find their communities and schools in rubble. Your ongoing support ensures that, as communities rebuild their lives, children continue to receive the education they need.

    In Afghanistan, we provided food aid as communities face the consequences of recent earthquakes. We also continue our commitment to education through the distribution of school supplies, with a recent and proud distribution to our largest school yet!

    The months passed and the months ahead are critical for the families we support. Across the board, your continuing support provides countless opportunities for a more stable future.

    Though, more than ever, your support in Gaza has been making all the difference.

    Starvation in Gaza is rising, bombs are still falling. The sound of air strikes, drones, and gunfire is constant. The people of Gaza endure not only a military campaign, but also a fight against hunger and thirst.

    Ahmad, our team lead in Gaza, says: “Fear isn’t just of death - it’s fear of hunger, thirst, or losing the children.”

    This is the devastating reality.

    Alongside daily water distributions, ReliefAid has been advocating for more decisive action for Gaza and sent letters to the NZ Govt urging action to end the crisis.

    We know how frustrating these times are, we see the outcry against starvation and bombardment, and we guarantee we are ensuring the world doesn't turn away from Gaza’s need. Your support keeps aid flowing.

    In other news, home repair projects in Ukraine are well underway - ensuring that families can live in weatherproof homes before winter.

    Our BB4S programme continues with our team beginning another stage in the Northwest Syria. Education is the foundation of communities, and your support lays those foundations.

    For 1000s of families, it feels as though the weight of the world is on their shoulders, but your support helps relieve that load.

    The last few months have been busy! ReliefAid founder Mike Seawright recently returned from visiting our teams and the families we support in Ukraine and Syria.

    What he saw was both heart-breaking and deeply motivating to do more.

    In Ukraine, Mike joined our team delivering hygiene kits to families living on the frontlines in Mykolaiv region. Despite freezing snow and roads blocked by blizzards, the distributions continued - because families can’t wait. Their lives are shattered, and they are finding it hard to afford the simple basics, but their strength and determination remain.

    In Syria, Mike visited our team in Aleppo and Idlib, and distributed food packages to families living in displacement camps. It was Mike's first time returning to Syria since the start of the war, and he noticed that even though the civil war had ended, the need for aid was staggering. Families live in tents. Children go without meals. But hope still exists - in the hearts of the people and in the impact of your support.

    And in Gaza, our team continues water distributions despite extreme danger and limited access to aid. Food is scarce, violence continues, and families are asking the world not to forget them. We won’t. Because of you, we’re still there.

    As global aid declines and leadership turns away, your continued support is more vital than ever. You are helping us deliver real aid and real hope to those who need it most.

    To all of you that have heard our calls for support for families in Ukraine, Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, and Afghanistan - thank you. Your kindness and humanity is reaching families in crisis in some of the world's most dangerous conflict zones, providing life-saving aid when it’s needed most.

    This year has started with momentum! In Syria, we’ve delivered life-saving Escea designed stoves through our Fire for Life programme, helping families safely cook for their loved ones.

    In Gaza, despite the devastating collapse of the ceasefire making aid delivery even harder, our team continues to distribute water everyday, ensuring families don’t go thirsty.

    In Ukraine, we have distributed warm winter blankets to those enduring bitter cold temperatures and we are preparing for continued aid distributions throughout the year. Watch this space!

    Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, the education programme Wings2Learn has provided hundreds of children with essential education supplies, keeping their dreams of learning alive.

    Conflict and disaster continue to disrupt lives at an alarming rate. 2025 is shaping up to be a daunting year, with wars dragging on, displacement rising, and humanitarian access under threat.     What does one million people receiving aid look like?

    It’s the displaced children in Syria jumping in puddles, warm and dry in their new winter boots.

    It’s the water gulped by a thirsty boy in Gaza before he carries the container back to his family.

    It’s the apple offered by an elderly woman in Ukraine as thanks for rebuilding her shattered home.

    This achievement is because of YOU—our donors and supporters. Whether you’ve been with us since our first aid distribution in Syria in 2015, or have joined us more recently to support families in Gaza, Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, or Afghanistan, thank you.

    As we approach the end of the year, we want to share the incredible impact your support has made!

    In Gaza the devastation continues but thanks to you, families struggling to survive are being provided with a lifeline, safe drinking water, to ensure they have a basic necessity in incredibly challenging times.

    In Lebanon, we are launching a new emergency aid initiative to assist families grappling with crisis conditions.

    Ukraine has recently experienced a dramatic escalation in violence. As the conflict reaches 1000 days, the destruction of power plants leaves families without heat in freezing temperatures. We are responding by delivering reconstruction materials to repair homes, keeping families warm.

    In Syria, the civil war is escalating, but our team continues to distribute winter aid. Their work marks our largest single distribution of the year, providing supplies to families living in displacement camps. For those enduring the harsh winter in tents, these supplies are a lifeline that helps them stay warm.

    Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, we are continuing to support children’s education through the colder months. Even during the challenges of winter, education remains a vital source of hope for the future, and your contributions help us keep this support going.

    While 2024 has brought many challenges, your support has brought a ray of hope to families living in unimaginable conditions and reminds them that they are not forgotten. Here is a quick update on what we have been getting up to…

    In Gaza, our team on the ground have been working tirelessly to deliver life-saving food packages and drinking water to displaced families in Khan Yunis and Rafah.

    In Ukraine, we continue to distribute emergency reconstruction materials for families to make home repairs, deliver essential medicines and supplies to medical centres in frontline communities, and support our partner, Tabletochki, in providing cancer care for children.

    In Syria, Bounce Back 4 Syria continues to inspire and promote education and resilience for children who have no access to schooling. Our Fire for Life initiative, in partnership with Escea, is providing families with safer cooking stoves.

    Finally, Wings 2 Learn in Afghanistan is supplying children with the stationery and educational materials they need to build a brighter future!

    Thanks to your support, we have provided vital aid to over 1/2 million people! This past year has been busy - in October 2023 we extended our operations to assist vulnerable families in Gaza, alongside continuing our ongoing work in Ukraine, Syria, and Afghanistan. Here is an overview of our current programmes:

    In Gaza, we are undertaking daily distributions of drinking water and food supplies to families under fire. In Ukraine, we are delivering emergency repair materials to families whose homes have been damaged by missiles and essential medical supplies to medical centres.

    In Syria, we have recently completed a distribution of essential winter clothing and shelter materials to families in 13 displacement camps. We are currently assembling and delivering ‘Fire for Life’ cooking stoves and our ‘Bounce Back 4 Syria’ education programme has commenced for the year.

    In Afghanistan, our ‘Wings to Learn’ education programme continues, accompanied by the distribution of educational resources to children.

    Your support is the cornerstone of our operations, enabling ReliefAid to make a tangible impact to those families facing unprecedent challenges. In 2024, there are more displaced people than ever before and in a world which is becoming more complex and perilous by the day, your contributions have been vital in bringing hope to those in need.

  • ReliefAid responds to the Syrian Earthquake.

    Because of your generosity, we have been able to quickly respond to the needs of earthquake survivors in Syria, while still working in Ukraine to deliver essential aid.

    In Syria our team has been hard at work distributing aid to community centres which have been set up in tents, schools and other buildings to house families who have lost everything.

    In each centre 150 - 200 families live crammed in next to one another. They have only the clothes they ran from their homes in. Thanks to you, our teams are delivering emergency aid to them right now. Children have food, families have blankets, mothers have formula for their babies– because of your donations.

    Our team in Turkey have been staying up through the night making blankets to ensure families in Syria would have warmth come morning, making 1,000 blankets in one night. The team continues to create and distribute blankets to families living in makeshift tents.

    It has been reported that over 5 million people will need shelter as a result of this event. How many children will have been affected? Our BounceBack4Syria project that works to build resilience in children living in the camps will be even more essential to help children through the impacts of earthquake on top of war.

    We will not stop doing whatever it takes to help families in Turkey and Syria recover. But we cannot do it alone: please share our work with your contacts so we can reach more families.

    It is in times of such utter tragedy that the need for humanity is at its greatest. We thank you for your humanity and your willingness to provide emergency aid to families who are experiencing the unimaginable right now.

    ABOUT RELIEFAID IN SYRIA

    ReliefAid has been operating in Syria since 2015. Our team is no stranger to disaster. They delivered aid to families in the rubble of their homes in Aleppo city following airstrikes. They reluctantly left Aleppo before it fell, joining millions displaced in NW Syria. Since then, they have worked tirelessly to support families in the area hit hardest by the earthquake.
