SHE (Support, Heal, Empower)

SHE is a Ōtautahi Christchurch based Women's Refuge supporting our community to live safe and healthy lives, free of violence.

Canterbury

SHE (Support, Heal, Empower) is an affiliated Women's Refuge based in Ōtautahi Christchurch dedicated to supporting all individuals affected by family violence. We believe that everyone deserves a life free from fear and harm.

How we help:

- Crisisline Support: 0800 REFUGE (0800 733843) - Our crisisline operates 24/7, 365 days of the year. We provide confidential, supportive, and non-judgmental assistance.

- Family Violence Advocacy: We assist individuals of all genders and sexualities. Advocacy, safety planning, support to navigate external services, supporting with resources, and providing information in confidence are all things our advocates can support with.

- Safe Accommodation Service: For those at imminent risk of family violence and meeting eligibility criteria. This can be provided for a short period of time until safety can be established in the community.

- Whānau Protect (National Home Safety Service): For high-risk victims not living with the abuser. Can include assessment, monitored alarm, and safety upgrades.

- Whānau Resilience (Holistic Support): Long-term support for healing and recovery from family violence. Advocates work with whānau on their journey to create long term wellness in the home.

Education Programme - SHE: Grows 8-Module Programme: Covering various topics to support, understand, and heal from family violence.

- Drop-In Coffee Group: Thursdays, 10 am - 11 am at 33 Sir William Pickering Drive.

Referrals can be made via crisisline, office visit, or the online form on our website.

More about us

SHE (Support, Heal, Empower) - formerly Battered Women's Trust, is an affiliated women's refuge in О̄tautahi Christchurch supporting women & children to live safe & healthy lives, free of family violence.

SHE is dedicated to empowering women and their children to live with autonomy and safety. Women, and their whānau, come to us at a great time of need, typically accessing our services through our vital 24/7 Crisisline, or through a professional referral or self-referral. We listen to their story, assess the safety needs of the caller and help them at their point of need. We assist them in the completion of a personalised safety plan for them and their children, which may include housing them in our own Women’s Refuge Safehouse accommodation, which is available any time, day or night.

Over the past year (1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024) we have provided 1,824 bed nights for women and their children, and received 1,242 calls through our Crisisline, which operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

Awesome Volunteers and Donors in July 22 Appeal   30 July 2022

Posted by: Sarah Ann Malin

We've had amazing volunteers this month from Rotary Avon-Otakaro, Rotary Sunrise, ANZ, Selwyn Women's Interest Group, and many other volunteers during this year's Appeal. So thankful to all of them. Thanks also to TLC (True Life Characters) who added to the fun at The Palms. Over $9500 raised, with other donations from activities still to come in.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, donated or just visited our Collection Desks to chat. You've made it an awesome Appeal this month.
