In a small town, a Sikh families gathered once a month on Sunday in a local Marae to pray together. The sangat sat on the floor, listening to Gurbani and learning about seva, equality, and courage from the stories of the Gurus. As more families joined the spirit of the sangat grew stronger and there was a vision to establish Gurdwara Sahib in Timaru.

“Our children deserve a place where they can learn about Sikhism, who they are, where everyone can come for langar, prayer, and community.” That dream was the beginning of building a Gurdwara—a home not just for worship, but for service to all.

A Gurdwara is more than a building. It is a place where no one leaves hungry, where people of all backgrounds sit together as equals, and where the next generation learns the values of compassion, humility, and courage.
