SPCA Canterbury has been proudly dedicated to caring for animals in our community for over 140 years.
Canterbury
Every year we care for thousands of lost, sick, injured, abandoned and abused animals. We rescue animals from harmful situations, attend animal emergencies, and investigate complaints about the ill-treatment of animals. We also provide a free education service to community groups and schools, helping to teach others about the importance of animal welfare.
Annually, it costs over $2 million to operate our services. With no government funding, we rely heavily on our local community to help fund our services.
In 2014, our Inspectorate Team investigated 1,036 welfare complaints and our animal ambulance attended 370 animal emergencies. Over 2,000 animals were cared for in our Animal Centre, 1,187 animals were adopted and 225 animals were reunited with their owner. Our animals consumed over 3.5 tonnes of pet food! Our Education Team also met with over 8,200 who participated in our Humane Education Programme.
Over 400 volunteers support us in our work and we are truly appreciative of all that they do for us.
