New Zealand Nutrition Foundation

New Zealand Nutrition Foundation

To enhance the quality of life of New Zealanders by encouraging informed, healthy and enjoyable food choices as part of an active lifestyle.

Auckland

The New Zealand Nutrition Foundation, a charitable trust, was established over 30 years ago to provide evidence based independent information on food and nutrition for New Zealanders. This is considered important as New Zealanders are being exposed to a wide range of nutrition information from a wide range of sources, some of which is accurate and some of which is based on propaganda or popular opinion. The NZNF helps New Zealanders make sense of this information by providing a balanced viewpoint on important issues around food, nutrition and health. Nutrition communication is achieved through our website, our own publications, and education programmes (JUST COOK and Health Ageing). The accuracy of all our information and activities is ensured by using an independent scientific advisor.

We provide support to our members in the form of consultation, advisory and partnership. Our organisation is often the first point of contact for the media when they need information and opinion on current food and nutrition issues.

The Foundation has a voice in the global nutrition community at a national and international level through its membership of and representation at the following:

Member of the Ministerial Advisory Group (Health Star Rating FOPL) and MPI Food & Beverage Forum.

Active member of International Food Information Organisation (FIO) network.

Strong networks in the universities and NGOs, and active participation in nutrition and dietetic student training programmes.

Membership of professional organisations and groups including Dietitians NZ, Nutrition Society of NZ, The New Zealand institute of Food Science and Technology (NZIFST), Public Health Association of NZ, Philanthropy NZ
