The St Albans Residents Association (SARA), plays a part in the development of St Albans as a vibrant community.
Canterbury
The St Albans Residents Association (SARA) Inc was established in 1998 as a proactive community development organisation. It has been working to make St Albans the vibrant and healthy community it is through involvement and empowerment of St Albans residents.
We do this by
• developing local activities for residents, including children and older residents,
• educating residents about matters potentially affecting them, their environment, their welfare, through the publication and circulation of information
• promoting the health and wellbeing of St Albans residents.
• providing space and resources to local residents to meet and connect.
Since 2013 the St Albans Community Strategy has led the direction of SARA’s project work. The strategy is a culmination of suggestions canvassed from 7000 households that were whittled down to the top 20 projects. It focuses on efficient and sustainable community-driven action backed with the idea of using social capital and existing community resources and organisations to strengthen community development, advocacy, and resilience.
SARA’s projects are led by the Community Activator, and currently has approximately 70 volunteers involved in local projects at the community centre and around the community.
The organisation is managed by a volunteer committee made up of local residents elected annually. The organisation represents a geographical community and is inclusive to all people.
