Takiwātanga Ki Tāmaki Makaurau

Takiwātanga Ki Tāmaki Makaurau charity is to educate, advocate and support whānau who identify as Takiwātanga in Auckland.

Auckland

This charity was founded in May 2022. The charity was created to support whānau through their Takiwātanga journey, specifically for those in Tāmaki Makaurau.

The mahi (work) we do is purely voluntary from māmās who have lived experience within the disability sector.

As parents, we had limited access to services, support or organisations to help us through our journey and we want to make a change for the next whānau and the whānau after that.

Our mission is to create a community in Tāmaki Makaurau in a Te Ao Māori worldview; where takiwātanga is nurtured and celebrated. Our kaupapa emphasises Te Ao Māori and Tikanga Māori.

Currently, we are the first and only Māori charity supporting Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and some feedback has included whānau feeling "like they finally belong", "empowered", and "proud to be Māori with Takiwātanga".

The purpose of this give-a-little page is to be able to continue this important mahi through hosting events, and parent support groups.

More about us
