Talalelei Life Futures Fund

A charity to honour the generous spirit of Talalelei to fund an otherwise unattainable path to a better life through tertiary scholarships.

Auckland

Talalelei Vou worked at the Return to Paradise Resort & Spa in Samoa for three years as Activities Director.

He was a loved husband, son, brother, friend and colleague.

On 7 October, 2018 a New Zealand Chinese guest was seen struggling in a rip near the resort.

Tala, a strong swimmer, did not hesitate to grab the life buoy and swim into the rip to help him.

Due to Tala's bravery, the young man's life was saved.

However, a large wave caught Tala from behind, knocking him into rocks, killing Tala instantly.

Tala was 31 years old.

The Talalelei Life Futures Fund was created by resort guests Andrea McKenzie and Brent Ogilvie, and Ramona Su'a Pale and Tolu Gilchrist of Return to Paradise Resort and Spa, in his memory.

The fund aims to improve access to tertiary education for students from Tala's village and the resort school.
