URGENT! Help save this unique piece of Kiwi history. Built from a single Kauri tree, Te Aroha is the only ship of her kind remaining today!

This beautiful piece of NZ history is alarmingly close to being cut up for her Kauri to be sold and forgotten forever. We have until 16/04/2016 to raise $55,000NZD so we can secure ownership of her for the community to enjoy for generations to come and cover our costs. Te Aroha is 107 years old and was constructed from one Kauri tree by the descendants of Hone Heke! There were once 200 of these ships in existence throughout NZ but now she is the last one still standing and is under real threat.
Once we've secured the ship we plan on restoring her to her former glory and bringing her back to where she was built, in Whangaroa.
There, she will be our basecamp for setting up sustainable industries and providing education on indigenous techniques and Maori culture - first in Whangaroa, then in other communities. Our urgent goal is to save a unique piece of New Zealand history. Te Aroha the Schooner (ship) was built 107 years ago from a single Kauri tree by Hone Hekes descendants. With just over 200 ever built, Te Aroha is the last of her kind and no blueprints exist so an exact replica is highly unlikely. She was one of the orginal trading ships built for trading around the coasts of New Zealand. Her existing owner is threatening to cut her up and sell off her Kauri, We have been given less than a month to raise the necessary funds to secure her ownership and ensure the vessel remains a part of our cultural history for future generations to come.
We must raise these funds by 16/04/2016 or the boat will be destroyed!
