We want to address social equity now

Waikato

Since the birth of the Innovation Trust in 2016 we have run our Child Scholarship Program. The Child Scholarship program is designed to aid New Zealand families with alleviating the financial stresses associated with back to school cost. The recipients are children from families that are facing financial hardship.

This is just one of the ways that we are working to increase social equity across New Zealand.

In 2019 we awarded 10 scholarships to children that met the above criterion. The scholarships’ are valued at $150 per child per year and is paid directly to the child’s school.

This is the first year that we ran a survey of the 2018 scholarship recipients and were able to get some data on the effectiveness of the program.

The 8 2018 recipients had this to say about our program:

. “The Child Scholarship really helped us as a family unit with the back to school costs. Thank you”

· “Thank you to the Innovation Trust for awarding our daughter this Scholarship. This really

helped our family more than words can express our gratitude”

· “Thank you so much with this financial assistance and support”

· “If it wasn’t for the scholarship [my child] would not experience School Summer Camp the Kiwi

way and in a Christian atmosphere. She learnt a lot of new skills and enlarged her circle of

friends! So thank you very much Innovation Charity Trust.”

· “It’s great, with being with the funding, or else, [my child] would not have gained all the

experience she enjoyed.”

· “It was a great blessing to have it [the Child Scholarship].”

It is our hope that these scholarships will ease the financial stress on families. This, in turn, will afford students extra-curricular access that will foster personal growth and future opportunity which would otherwise be denied on simply a fiscal basis.

Thereby obtaining more positive and better outcomes for students to succeed and pave the way to a brighter future.

Ongoing covid-19 Support  18 October 2020

Last week we had the pleasure to partner with the South Waikato Achievement Centre in Tokoroa whose mission statement is "Supporting people with disabilities to achieve their goals".

The Achievement centre was founded and developed in 1972 in the South Waikato region offering a wide range of programs through business units, Community Participation, and Creative Arts Units. It is based on a personal optimistic philosophy that it is possible to harness professional skills and knowledge with community resources and goodwill to provide a people-centered service, where everyone benefits. "Personal growth, self-esteem and respect results when people are able to be contributing members of their local communities".

We wanted to come alongside them and offer our support with our egg project. We handed over 47 dozen eggs that will be distributed to their residences.
