Help maintain & operate Theatre Royal Nelson, a beautifully restored heritage building & support & celebrate creative artistic expression.
Nelson
Built in 1878 and carefully and extensively refurbished and redeveloped from 2005 to 2010, the Theatre Royal is the oldest operating wooden theatre in Australasia.
Beyond the beautifully restored heritage facade and Victorian auditorium, is a 21st century back of house facility boasting a modern counterweight fly-tower, the only one in the Nelson-Tasman region, sound, lighting, and data systems, a fully masked stage, orchestra pit, scene dock, dressing rooms and rehearsal space.
The theatre is a sought-after venue for many performing arts organisations and community groups locally, nationally and internationally. We work with local amateur, professional and touring groups and organisations to support them to mount a wide variety of shows and performances.
A donation to the Nelson Historic Theatre Trust will ensure our beautifully restored theatre remains just that ... and more.
Donations also support performances, programmes and the development of the Theatre for our astonishing creative community and the next generation of artists.
Built in 1878 and extensively refurbished from 2005 to 2010, the Theatre Royal is the oldest operating wooden theatre in Australasia. The refurbishment brought the theatre into the 21st century offering a multi-purpose auditorium with 330 seats.
