After a challenging five day deployment, our VERT team returned home yesterday safe and sound. Although the devastation of cyclone Gabrielle was overwhelming, there were numerous success stories with the team evacuating all sorts of animals, and performing a few technical rescues (including sheep rescued from a roof top). The team want to acknowledge the incredible organisations we worked with including HUHANZ, SPCA Hawke's Bay, and Animal Evac New Zealand (all under the direction of the Ministry for Primary Industries). Also, the Hawke’s bay community- it was a privilege to assist where we could. And finally, thank you so much to everyone who has donated. The money raised will cover our training costs for this year and allow us to replace some dated equipment – we are so grateful to all you wonderful people. Kia kaha.

Hi everyone, here’s a quick update: VERT have arrived in Hawkes bay, having traveled from Auckland where they were first deployed. The team have had a busy day rescuing animals stranded by Cyclone Gabrielle, including sheep, dogs and even some fish. The team is tired but in good spirits and heartened to hear about all the support coming in – thank you so much to everyone who has donated!

Photos still to come, but here's one of the road heading out with bad weather looming.

Our latest rescue was for poor Fresca who found herself in quite the predicament. To get her out safely we executed a hobbled vertical lift, before moving her to safety. Happy to report it was a positive outcome for all involved.

Five members of the team deployed to Napier, and headed to Raupunga in rural Northern Hawkes Bay. Spot was very happy to reunited with his owners, and we're glad we could help make that happen 🙂.

A fabulous result, and Spot was such a happy boy! Once again it was great to work with our friends SPCA National Rescue Unit.

NEWS: The VERT team assisted FENZ with a rescue in July 2020, involving three horses trapped in an overturned truck on the Saddle Rd. All three horses were safely removed, with no major injuries, which is a great outcome for all ☺️ The horses are happy to be home which is fantastic for all involved 🐴😇
