Visions of a Helping Hand Charitable Trust Rotorua

  • Visions 2020 growth

      15 February 2021

We still have an unfunded shelter for women and children in Taupo and our Mana Aroha Whare (koha shop, free showers and laundromat) However 2020 was a year of unprecedented change. After struggled with minimal funding for years when Covid hit we were suddenly thrown into the chaos of getting people off the streets and out of our communal living spaced facilities so people could be safe in their own bubbles. We moved over a hundred men women and children into 2 motels the day NZ went into lock. From these motels we have continued to run our housing ready model. We have a contract to provide wrap around services to support our clients to become good tenants that are able to sustain their tenancies. Families in our motels attend a multitude of courses including budgeting, parenting, counseling for drug & alcohol to name but a few.

We have many services that are unfunded like our furniture removal team and our storage units. We store donated furniture in our units and when a family is ready to move (sometimes with no furniture at all) we are able to send our crew around and furnish their house for free.

How is your donation used? We fund Mana Aroha and laundromat, provide food parcels for families in need, school uniforms & stationary. We staff our removal team and vehicles. We create positive memories for our families by trips to the circus, movies and lake BBQ. We give every person that joins us the opportunity to put the past behind them and start working on a becoming the best model of themselves.
