We need your help to secure one of Wellington City's last remaining tracts of old-growth native forest. It's an absolute gem!
Wellington
The property is in South Mākara. Botanists are drooling over it. Kiwi have moved in already. The 71 hectares will flourish as we put effective pest control and monitoring in place.
We’re very excited to be partnering with Ngahuru Charitable Trust to purchase the property. Wellington Botanical Society and several generous private donors have committed funding. We’re also incredibly grateful to our friends at Capital Kiwi who’ve worked alongside us to get this far.
The vendor has accepted our offer, which is subject to finance. We have until 31 December to find the remaining $98,000. Together we can make it happen!

Our Trust was established in 1999 to progress local strategic conservation work and purchase a 65-ha property (Long Gully Bush Reserve) next to Zealandia in Wellington. Several neighbours have contributed parts of their properties to be managed by us and most of the land is protected by QEII Open Space covenants. We fund intensive pest plant and animal control, which is enabling the forest to regenerate naturally and provide a safe haven for rare and threatened birds.
