Wellington
Wellington Regional Ice Skating Trust ( WRIST ) has been established with the aim to bring an Olympic sized ice skating facility to the Wellington region to enable the growth of ice sports in the region.
Why and Olympic sized ice arena is a positive community asset.
The proposed dome would:.
• Have an ice rink of 60 meters x 30 meters.
• Will have 4 changing rooms with showers.
• Will have a small cafeteria space with children’s play area.
• Will have approximately 700-800 spectator seating.
•
We expect enormous growth of the different ice-skating sports and recreational aspects of the ice rink in the Greater Wellington region.
Ice sports are already expanding rapidly in New Zealand and with Wellington being the 3rd largest city in NZ we have the population and a number of ice sport clubs in the region ready to support this.
An ice arena in the region will provide a new range of all year-round sporting activities that aren’t weather dependent.
Some of the sports and events we are able to accommodate but not limited too are:
Recreational Ice skating
Curling
Speedskating
Short Track
Bandy
Rink ball
Spongee
Sled /Para Ice Hockey
Ice Hockey
Internationally sanctioned events due to the Olympic sized surface being a requirement for multiple ice sports.
WRIST.
