Conservation is at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to saving wildlife and wild places through conservation initiatives.
Wellington
At Wellington Zoo we are guided by our kaupapa Me Tiaki, Kia Ora! We must look after our environment, so all things will flourish. It is up to us collectively to make a difference for animals and the wild places they call home.
Conservation, excellent animal and community care is at the heart of everything we do, as a nonprofit. Our goal is to facilitate a connection with the animals we care for and nature. In the heart of the Zoo, we treat some of New Zealand's most endangered species at Te Kōhanga The Nest, our purpose-built wildlife hospital. Since opening in 2010, we have treated over 5000 sick and injured native species.
By making a donation to Wellington Zoo, you will be supporting the care of our animals, conservation work and community accessibility.

STORM APPEAL: Te Kōhanga The Nest 23 February 2026
We have been overwhelmed by the level of support received for our storm appeal, to support the 31 birds in our care at Te Kōhanga.
It costs over $1million to operate our wildlife hospital each year, with $300,000 being spent on consumables alone. Any donation made to this appeal will help us significantly.
We are so grateful for your support.
