YMCA South & Mid Canterbury is all about "Investing in the Next Generation" by developing the potential in all young people in our region.
Canterbury
When you give to your local YMCA, you are investing in your local community.
How? You ask - Well, it’s like this, your generosity helps the YMCA locally carry out all the initiatives that enable us to make meaningful and positive changes to the lives of our young people.
We’ve been doing this for over 100 years and have provided opportunities to educate, support, and grow the young people in our region throughout this time. Our ultimate work is putting young people at the forefront of everything we do by “Investing in the Next Generation”.
We continue to listen to the needs of our local community and ensure everything we offer is relevant, meets the need, and helps grow young people into strong contributing adults. Therefore benefiting our community.
Only a portion of the valuable work the YMCA does to educate, nurture, support, and develop children and young people is funded by government contracts.
All donations would allow us to continue to provide Pop-Up Play, Active Recreation, and Sports Activities - These Free Fun activities are held at parks throughout South & Mid Canterbury. Our delivery includes a wide range of non-traditional sport, recreation, and team building activities to improve skills, confidence, and participation. Our focus continues to work alongside young people to engage, empower, and ensure that their real or perceived barriers to participation are met.
YMCA South & Mid Canterbury has been making positive things happen with and for young people for over 100 years, because we're all about Investing in the Next Generation.
Underpinning all our work are the YMCA values of Caring, Respect, Honesty and Responsibility. Our youth development, education, and employment programmes and services – provided at no or minimal cost to participants – impact the lives of in excess of 4500 people every year across our region.
Much of the valuable work the YMCA does to educate, nurture, support and develop young people is not government-funded. Your donation — your investment in our community — allows us to purchase much needed equipment and resources (like specialised gear for our Opihi Services Academy learners and replacements for our popular Bubble Football kits), and to employ youth development staff and tutors (for instance, for our Resiliency Toolkit, which is expanding to all secondary schools in the region).
