Amy Squires is a 23 year old paramedic from Newfoundland, Canada.
Melissa Papanayotou is a 25 year old financial analyst from Montreal, Canada.
On a recent trip to Africa, the two visited orphanages and communities benefiting from the generosity of Global Volunteer Network and its Volunteers, it is here that Amy Melissa met.
After spending some time in the overwhelmingly large slum, and its clinic, the two saw the immediate need for an ambulance, and understood the incredible positive effects it would have on the community they began combining efforts to enhance the quality of ambulatory care at Ushirika Clinic. The idea of a country wide fundraiser came easily, both girls, being outgoing and determined, set their sights high, intending to raise enough to purchase and transport an ambulance to Kibera.
The tour will begin in St. John’s, NL and continue through to Vancouver, B.C, stopping in each province. Each stop will include an event in the community to raise awareness on the help needed in many African communities, such as Kibera.
