In 2011 Amanda was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma Cancer. A tumour was growing around her vertebral artery in C3,4,5 of her spine. Amanda underwent an incredible 2 day operation. The risks were very high, faced with little choice for survival Amanda consented. The surgery saved her life but in doing so left her partially disabled. 6 rounds of chemo and over 1 year of rehabilitation Amanda was back on track and living life to the full.
December 2014 a new lump appeared in her neck, a CT scan revealed a second tumour back against her spine where the original cancer started. This time the second tumor is inoperable. Amanda did 4 cycles of chemo. A CT scan proved the tumors were growing aggressively. In early May Amanda will begin 6 weeks of daily radiation. Once radiation is complete she will then begin a Phase II drug Trial in Christchurch. This is a targeted therapy drug.
There are no promises, but with hope there is life.
