At the Akina Foundation we help people start up social enterprises.
Bikes in Schools, the programme we're raising money for on the 2019 Tour of New Zealand cycle race (as we did in the previous four Tours in 2012, 2013, 2015 and too), is a very good example.
Paul McArdle and his colleagues are setting up cycle tracks, bikes and bike training in schools around the country. These help kids gain a life-long, healthy passion for cycling.
Full details, including wonderful videos, are at www.bikeon.org.nz/bikesinschools.html
Drawing on my experience as a business journalist, and as a founding trustee and past chairman of Akina, I'm convinced such social enterprises will play an ever increasing role in NZ's sustainable development.
Please support our work! Thank you!
