Dear Friends and family,
I am reaching out to share my journey and ask for your help in a challenging time in my life.
As some of you already know, in recent months, I have been faced with an unexpected and life-altering diagnosis: Stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma in my larynx, which has also spread to my thyroid. This news has turned my world upside down, and I am now preparing for a total Laryngectomy on the 20th of September. This surgery will involve the removal of my voice box and thyroid, and the creation of a permanent speaking valve and stoma (breathing hole in my neck).
Following the surgery, my treatment journey will continue with radiation therapy and chemotherapy. This road is undeniably tough, but I am determined to fight with all my strength, courage, and hope.
In addition to the emotional toll, there are also financial challenges. While most of my medical costs are covered by the public health system and the Cancer Society, there are many other expenses that have emerged. Fertility preservation has become a necessity for me, and unfortunately, it's only partially funded. My body has been through so much already, particularly with the impact of prednisone steroids over the past six months until the doctors finally identified this as cancer. Changes in diet and health supplements are necessary to support my immune system in repairing itself and preparing for surgery. These are only the costs I currently know of, there will be more that arise on the way, such as purchasing a chemotherapy hat to prevent my hair from falling out.
I am currently on a medical benefit due to my inability to work for the near future, which covers my essential needs like rent, power/internet, and some groceries. However, it falls short of covering these extra costs.
I'm not one to ask for help easily, but if you find it within your heart and have the means to donate any amount, it would mean the world to me. Your support will help cover the additional expenses that have arisen and give me a chance to prepare my body for this surgery and emerge on the other side healthy and ready to reclaim my life.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering contributing to my cause. Your generosity, whether big or small, will make a tremendous difference in my life.
With heartfelt gratitude and warm wishes,
Savannah
