It’s my birthday and all I want this year is to see the Queen Elizabeth Academy in Mlali, Tanzania get closer to being self-sustainable.
QEA was founded in 2008 thanks to the dream, determination and foresight of Tanzanian born Kilines Sekwiha.
QEA provides quality education to children from Mlali and further afield. Currently the school relies on external funding to pay teachers’ wages and to fund the expansion of the school. There is a high demand from working families wanting to send their children to QEA.
Kilines and the community have every desire and are working hard to see the school become self-reliant.
Approximately 50% of the 100 students attending QEA currently are unable to pay school fees. QEA will continue to provide vulnerable children in the community with quality education by attracting more paying students. The ratio of 2 paying students to one non-paying student means the school can be financially viable and provide quality education to all children, regardless of circumstance.
To do this, the school needs a boarding house to accommodate paying students traveling from further afield. The boarding house is one of the primary needs to ensure the school becomes self-reliant.
