Wellington actor Jean Sergent is going to Mexico to workshop Shakespeare's 'The Comedy of Errors' in multiple languages
Wellington
I'm an actor from Wellington, New Zealand. I'm heading to Jalapa, Mexico in July to play Angelo in The Comedy of Errors. The company I'm working with is the International Actors Ensemble. We formed at Shakespeare's Globe in London in 2015. This project is our first attempt at making work as a truly international company. Our members live variously in New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, USA, France, Italy, and Australia.
For an international show, it's actually on a pretty lean budget! I need about NZD$4500 to get there and take part. I'm running some live fundraiser gigs in Wellington in June 2016, but I've set up this funder so that people in other parts of Aotearoa and the world can pitch in if they want to! All your support is so hugely appreciated.
I'm an actor, and I'll be playing Angelo the Jeweller. I'm one of the founding members of the IAE, so we share producing duties
“Until I know this sure uncertainty, I'll entertain the offered fallacy.” 12 June 2016
Less than a month until I leave!
Thank you so very much to everyone who has donated, I really couldn't do this without you.
It's all been very hectic at International Actors Ensemble HQ. We've been lining up venues in Mexico City and in Jalapa. We've found a house in Mexico City where we can all live together. I've realised I don't know ANY Spanish! How do i ask for a coffee with soy milk?
