This project has reached its target. You may still donate to this project if you wish.

I am needing to get a laparoscopy and to get it done privately is at least $5000

Otago

PLEASE READ - I have made it so that the money will only come into my account IF I reach my goal of $5000, if I don't then the money will stay yours!!

I have been struggling with an undiagnosed abdominal pain since I first got my period when I was around 11-12. Cut to now and I have been in and out of the hospital at least 5 times (even overseas), doctors have come to the conclusion it is most likely endometriosis. This pain has been a huge part of my life, it affects my daily activities and my relationships with people meaning sometimes I have to miss out on things because I am in too much pain and can't walk or get out of bed. I have tried all sorts of different medication with no long term relief and at the moment I am experiencing pain at least once a day (whether that be an 8 or a 1 in terms of how bad it is)

I have seen a gynecologist in America who recommended I get a laparoscopy and then when I came home I had to see another gynecologist (which cost a few hundred dollars) and she has referred me to get one at the hospital. However, she said the waiting list for this is unpredictable. It has already been around 6 months since she put it through. The day because NZ went into level 4 lockdown I was supposed to go to the hospital for a meeting to discuss my situation and hopefully talk about surgery options. This was cancelled. I was told I would be eligible for a phone interview probably that day but heard nothing. I gave it a few weeks then rung back and asked if I would get a call. I was told that she would pass on a message and hopefully the doctor would get in touch. I still haven't heard anything. Even after elective surgery reopens I will still be having to wait another (I would guess) 6 months as I have to get a time to meet with the doctor then get put on the waiting list for the surgery. I cannot afford to have anymore time off Uni and my job and I would love to be able to have a normal life where I can hang with friends without the worry of pain.

I have been told that I can go privately however this will cost at least $5000 which is not feesible for my family. I understand this is not something people usually would fundraise for but the way I see it this illness has been affecting my life for at least 7 years and the sooner I can get some answers and on top of it the better. I really appreciate anything!!

Use of funds

This money will be spent on my surgery and any other excess treatments I need.

Private surgery  22 August 2020

Hey everyone! So can’t remember if I said this in a previous update BUT i’ve applied through Mercy Hospital (private) to get my surgery funded by them (it’s an outreach programme they have) and have said I would be willing to give $1000. I am still waiting to hear from them about this - if I get it then this page will be deleted and you’ll all get your money back as the $5000 has to be reached for me to get the money. If they say no then obviously i’m still needing $5000. So again i’m asking if you can donate that would be an amazing help as just to reiterate - if I don’t reach $5000 OR my surgery is funded by hospital then you get all your money back. Thanks again to those who have given. This is something that is affecting my everyday life and I just want some answers. Thanks xx
