Digitise a 100 year old WWI journal for future generations to keep.
Nationwide
Hilton George Olliver, kept a journal during his service in WWI. Gifted to Te Puke Ariki Museum in Taranaki, and one hundred years old, it is now fragile and not easy to access. The museum has offered to have the diary digitised for $410.00 including GST. The digital file will be made available to family members, and a copy gifted back to museum also. It is not mine to keep - mine is the privilege to share it :-) Any donation would be appreciated. Please ensure you include an email address where I can contact you to send you a copy too!
Hilton George Olliver was my Great-grandfather. My grandad was Jack Olliver, I'm Barry Olliver's eldest daughter. I knew very little about my great grandad, but with WWI commemorations, I began to wonder if my father's paternal grandfather had been in service, as his maternal grandfather had. With some investigating I discovered that his journal was housed at Te Puke Ariki. I love history, especially family history and I would love to be able to have this document available and accessible to all our family.
Wow we made it! 15 August 2015
I didn't realise once target was reached donations would still be accepted. I can return the funds that came in later, or reserve them to put towards possible costs of online storage (the file will be huge), possibly getting a hard copy printed (I'd like to transcribe what I can in the future) or making digital copies to CD for distribution. What are your thoughts? I can close the page now the target is reached or leave it until closing date (in 12 days) ...I am also happy to put extra funds aside for other heritage projects.
