Puketi forest needs enviroMate100 pest control technology now!

William asks

Has DOC approved your private possum eradication/control plan and will they monitor the results / success so in future your company can be used as a alternative to 1080 using you every year to keep the possum population at a very low level funded by DOC.

We have access to provide possum control with traps once a trapping permit has been processed. These are valid for 12 months normally. Doc have suggested ecoland complete cyanide consent to enable access with toxins this we will do if successful in gaining pubic support. More discussions would be required with DOC regarding any support they could offer. We can have a independent person monitor the block otherwise. We promote this work to enable others opportunity.to gain employment in there local area. Ideally control could be carried out in a rotation yearly and ideally funded by DOC. long term approach is to extend the control zone outwards. Low density enviroMate placing's could maintain extremely low internal populations when cycled on 49 day cycles....hopefully this answers your questions

Also what actually is enviroMate technology and has it been trialed?

Thanks again for your interest

enviromate conceptual development started in 2009. It was developed using sustainable design to provide service in conservation. To the point: omahuta forest being the most recent conducted October November 2017 under a standard DOC performance possum contract. The area was 533ha. 400ha were operated using enviroMate100, 100ha was protected boundary with enviroMate 100 with standard cyanide implementation within. The automated area achieved below 10% wax tag index, the other conventional cyanide system maintained its original monitor % atfer 48 days of no further work. 1 person can happily preform this automated task which takes 10 days installation and 10 days removal in such difficult forest vegetation.....We are continually trailing and currently operate trials in boundary and eradication so now understand this technology with confidence enabling our promotion. We now need prove scale of operation can be achieved....... hopefully with your help......

Can you be a bit more precise on what the money will be used for.

eco-land Ltd

Hi

Thanks for your questions: Puketi Forest has an area of significant landscape on the north eastern side. This area historically receives regular pest control effort as it extremely has two rare plants within. The area in the last 15 years is recovering well fantails have returned and tomitit are frequent. Old growth Totara trees return with canopy and kohekohe slow regain strength....... Unfortunately work has been postponed and we would like offer / provide the control and also extend our technologies research to show landscape scale can be achieved. The money if successful will be used to target possums to under 15%wti being the DOC described goal and reduce rat numbers providing toxin be permitted. The out come will be possum control work maintained to target 15% wti, a time in motion study of the enviroMate 100, an a physical display of landscape scale.......We would employ and train one new local member with CSL to operate the enviroMate per equipment rotation every 30 days, so a total of 6 within the proposed operation. With 6 trained independent operators the maintenance of the total forest is possible each year should the technology and management system be accepted. Across three years the cost to implement would be similar to that of one aerial delivery! Hopefully this clarifies your question
