I made my journey from Los Angeles to New Zealand. Now, join me for a bigger adventure: to become the musician I always knew I could be.

ABOUT ME
My name is Marina Sakimoto and I’m a twenty-one year old musician from Los Angeles, and I’m currently living in Invercargill, New Zealand. You might be thinking... why is someone from the big city of Los Angeles living in, of all places, Invercargill? Well, it’s a long story that has to do with love and finding adventure, and I came to New Zealand without a clue of what was going to happen next. I believe it is important to follow your gut instincts and achieve everything you want to in life, no matter what it takes. I have been playing guitar, singing, and writing songs all of my life, and if I can achieve my dreams in Invercargill, then the world is my (Bluff) oyster.
So far, with just my laptop and guitar, I’ve released my first EP, ‘Honey, Milk and Blood’ in May of this year. This EP gained me a record label from the UK (Art Is Hard Records), a national tour and showcase at Fancy New Band in Auckland hosted by 95bFM, and international recognition from publications such as NME, The Guardian, DIY Mag, and BrooklynVegan. My songs have been played all over New Zealand independent radio (Radio One 91FM Dunedin, RDU 98.5FM Christchurch, 95bFM Auckland, Radio New Zealand) and have been #1 several times.
I recently received a $10,000 grant from NZ On Air Making Tracks, and it will fund the production of my upcoming music video and single.
If all of that can come from a lo-fi bedroom recording within a few months, then the possibilities are endless!
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This project will fund two major aspects for our upcoming album:
1. The recording and vinyl distribution of, ‘The Pink Noise’.
2. New gear, so we can practice and perform alongside the album’s high quality.
BUDGET
My budget is $5,000. This breaks down to:
$2,000 - Recording at The Sitting Room in Christchurch and producing the vinyl release of ‘The Pink Noise’ through Art Is Hard Records.
$3,000 - New gear

Heading to Auckland! 15 November 2014
Hey everyone,
It's been crazy over here lately. Along with this campaign, I have been working on an upcoming music video that is being funded by NZ On Air for a future single, 'Our Names', off of The Pink Noise.
I will be flying to Auckland next week to shoot the video and during my trip, I will be doing press and interviews with 95bFM and TheAudience.co.nz, to name a couple. I will also be stopping by Flying Nun Records to say hello, which I'm quite excited about.
I always enjoy visiting Auckland... reminds me of a little Los Angeles, filled with immense culture and art.
Just a reminder that matching has ended, and we are reaching a crucial point in our timeline. We have about a week left starting Monday, so every dollar counts!
I hope all of you are having a fantastic weekend! Thank you for your support!
