Help Zay Yar Ni Win cover his living expenses while at university.

International

Hi, we are Aleisha, Katie and Laura, three New Zealanders living and volunteering in Thailand. We are working at a school called Marist Asia Foundation which provides education to migrants from Myanmar. Zay Yar Nay Win is one of our teaching colleagues and we would love to help him gain a university education and achieve his dream starting his own business to help young people in his hometown in Myanmar.

Here is his story:

Hi! My name is Zay Yar Nay Win. I am from Hpa-An in Myanmar. Since 2009, I have been studying and working in Ranong, Thailand. My family moved here because of the lack of job opportunities in Myanmar. For the last five years, I have been working as a teacher teaching other Burmese migrant children under Marist Asia Foundation, a faith-based organization working in Ranong. Education is important for us, when we are educated, we can get good and highly paid jobs then we can support our family and community.

In 2015, I graduated with a Diploma in Liberal Studies from an online programme with the Australian Catholic University. Now I have the opportunity to continue my studies in Bangkok. I have applied to Assumption University (www.au.edu) and have been accepted into the Bachelor of Business Administration degree programme. Once I graduate, I have a dream to open my own business in my home town in Myanmar employing young people. In my community, there are many young people who are unemployed which causes poverty. The focus of my business will not be solely on profit, but instead on providing opportunities, training and life skills to young people. I believe I will be able to help my community in this way by providing this kind of support.

With a migrant salary (average is $12 NZD per day), it is impossible for me to cover all the fees to study at university. My tuition fees and accommodation will be covered by the loans I am going to take from (Zomia.org) and some help from my friends. Unfortunately, I can’t borrow any more money and I will also need to cover my living expenses. That’s why I am asking for your support. I promise all your support will not be in vain. It will not only benefit me, but it will also help my community and my country.

Your donation will be conditional and will only be debited from your account if we reach our target of $4200 NZD.

Use of funds

Your donation will be used to cover my living expenses for the first year such as my food, medical expenses, visa, and school equipment (text books and other materials).

Zay Yar Nay Win has won a scholarship!  9 July 2018

Great news! Zay Yar Nay Win has been awarded a partial fee scholarship to attend Walailak University in Nakhon Si Tamarat in Southern Thailand. We are so happy for him. He has accepted a place to study the Bachelor of Business Administration (Logistics Analytics and Supply Chain Management).

He will still need money to cover his living costs, so we would love your support to raise the rest of the funds he needs. Thanks!
