  • WE DID IT!!!

What started as a challenge to encourage exercise and fundraising for New Zealand's Regional Rescue Helicopters has resulted in a fantastic result with $68,000.00 being raised!

With YOUR support, not only did we as a Team at Craigs Whangarei complete over 5,100km in the month of March, but we also raised $1,605 for the local Rescue Helicopter!! And thanks to Craigs' generosity in doubling all donations received, the Northland Emergency Services Trust will receive $3,210.00 from us to put toward their day to day operating costs.

We want to express again our gratitude to you for supporting our Challenge AND the vital services of the Northland Rescue Helicopter. We couldn't have done it without you, and we are so grateful to know that the helicopter service is there when needed in our region.

We'll be back next year, for a bigger and better 2024, so until then, stay safe!

He aha te mea nui tea o? He tangata he tangata, he tangata!

What is the most important thing in the world? It is people it is people it is people!

    Nga mihi nui, na,

    Craigs Whangarei

I'll leave the final update for Monday but I can promise you that ourefforts didn't dwindle at the end!! There were plenty of us gyming, yogaing and walking the Loop this morning - including our lovely Teamie, Amy and with her furbaby, Eddie.

It's looking like not only did we beat our kilometres for last year but - fingers crossed - we also beat our fundraising efforts. And with Craigs DOUBLING our contribution we are SO looking forward to seeing the final FUNdraising figure!!!

  • Nearly Done!!

      28 March 2023

The month and the kilometres have flown by and with only 4 days left in the month we have reached the 4,000km mark. We are a pretty competitive lot though, and we are determined to better last year's effort of 4,870km by the end of the week. This means we are going to have to crack the whip to rack up the kms for the last days of March.

There have been a few bouts of sickness or injury over the month, and life sometimes gets in the way of our best intentions too. Our most consistent and ever-high-achieving Teamie is Adviser, Scott Chapman who, with a rigorous training schedule at the best of times, helps to achieve about 1/3 of our kilometres each week!! Last week, Scott's effort included taking part in a local school fundraising 5km obstacle run, followed immediately by the father/son 1.5km team effort, and later that day a 26km bike ride to put the icing on the cake.

Awhi mai, awhi atu, tatou, tatou e.

We help one another and together we will be strong

  • A visit from the Helicopter Crew

      24 March 2023

We just had an excellent visit from the Northland Helicopter Rescue Team! Our team all brought a plate for a shared morning tea and a cash koha to contribute to our Givealittle page. We were lucky enough to have not only Jan the Fundraising Manager, but also Lance (Pilot), Sara (Paramedic), Cae (Engineers Admin). They gave us an in depth look into the day-to-day running of the Rescue Helicopter – including a breakdown of costs which gave us a very clear picture of why they rely on the generosity of the public’s donations. 1 hour of flying time requires 4 hours of follow up maintenance and parts cost from tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars!!

During their visit, Sara got called to a job, which meant we also got to meet Andrew (paramedic), and the new Rapid Response Vehicle, which allows the remaining team who are on shift to attend accidents in the community when the rescue helicopters have been deployed to other areas.

It was an absolute privilege to have the NEST Team attend our branch today. We all appreciated, especially after the tumultuous start to the year the weather has provided us, how lucky we are to have a rescue helicopter that is able to provide such an important, lifesaving service in what is a geographically remote and at times isolated region of the country.

  • Week Three - On the Downward Run!

      20 March 2023
    Main image

With only 11 days left in the month, we are officially on the downward run to the finish line BUT our 50 Ks of 'Rei Team have hit 3000km and have managed to raise $655 so far!

We have some really consistent exercisers in our Branch, but it has been so cool to see the 'occasional movers' among us using this 50 Ks a Day Challenge as motivation to increase their activity. I am confident that we can hit at least 4,000km for the month and hopefully best last years effort of 4,870kms!!

We are so grateful for all the donations we have received so far, and hope that just like our kms, they will keep on coming so that we can make a meaningful contribution to the Northland Rescue Helicopter.

  • Week 2 - Upping the Ante

Another week and another stellar effort for our first FULL week of March by our 50 Ks of 'Rei Team. This week our exercise efforts included Netball, Golf, Yoga, Dancing, Abseiling and Crossfit as well as gym, walking, cycling and running for a total of 1,245km! This brings our total effort for the month thus far to 1,983km.

    Ka pai te koutou mahi!!

Spotlight this week on Advisers Nick Chapman and Mat Stoddart who have been racking up the kilometres by flying the Craigs flag while attending local Charity Golf days.

  • Here we GO!!🎉

      7 March 2023

While March snuck up on us this year, but as we are a pretty active bunch, we are underway and as a Team managed to clock up an excellent 738km for the first five days of the month!!

Activities we undertook included golfing, running, walking, cycling, gyming and weight lifting. Obviously it's pretty hard to count kilometres when you're lifting weights, so we have a nation-wide agreed allocation for some of the less mobile exercise options, so that we can encourage all sorts of exercise! For example, one hour of weights (like our awesome, strong Teamie, pictured) earns 4kms of movement!

Let's see what OTHER forms of movement we can fit in this month!!
