We want to increase awareness of the seriousness of ovarian cancer and raise funds to help this cause. Please support us by donating.
Nationwide
Our lovely friend Kate has Ovarian Cancer. Her positivity has inspired us to challenge ourselves to travel a combined 1000 kms in training for, and competing in, the Spring Challenge Adventure Race to be held in Greymouth on October 2nd.
We are a team of 4. Amanda, Carmen and Laura will train and compete while Super Support Person, Kate, will motivate and keep us on track. Our training and racing kilometres will be done on foot (running, hiking), bike (mountain or stationery) and water (rafting) with a bit of pilates and yoga thrown into the mix.
Ovarian Cancer is called the Silent Killer because it is often detected too late. Review of data from the last 5 years shows that women with ovarian cancer have a lower chance of survival (4/10) than a man with prostate cancer (9/10), or a person with breast cancer (9/10). People are often shocked when they learn that ovarian cancer kills more wahine than our road toll and that the cervical screening program does not check for ovarian cancer.
The Te Aho O Te Kahu Cancer Control Agency released a report this year which stated that of all the cancers our government funds research on - ovarian cancer received the least funding over a 13 year period.
Step Up 1000 km for Kate Final Update 4 October 2021
On Saturday we completed Spring Challenge. We rafted, biked and ran from The Arnold River Dam to Lake Brunner. It was fantastic and brought our total kilometres travelled to 1543, raising $2620. We feel privileged to have been a part of this campaign, building awareness and raising funds for ovarian cancer education and research. This page will stay open until 20th October so please continue to share our story.
