Tron Troopers

  • And we've done it!

      4 April 2022

9,061km's and $1,700 later, the 50KM a day challenge for March has been a blast!

The Tron Troopers team have been kayaking, climbing, hiking, running, cycling, playing rugby, swinging the cricket bat, badminton, swimming, and everything in between. Throughout the month we’ve taken our friends and family out for that extra walk to explore somewhere new and create memories that will last forever. If you think back to our main goals, these were to have some fun, get moving, and to raise money for our local Helicopter trusts, and when we reflect over these, we’ve far exceeded our goals!

Through the generosity of each of you, your friends, family and clients, through both time and resources, we have helped support an essential service in our communities and I think we all can be very proud.

Let’s keep some of those good habits up for the rest of the year and by March 2023 we will be ready to continue and build upon this amazing work!

    Well done team!

  • Week Three - Ticked Off - 21 March 2022

The current overall tally for Tron Troopers is 5,998km and $1,550 raised for the Philips Search and Rescue Trust.

We were lucky to have the Balloons over Waikato this week which meant for some amazing views for our morning exercise. We had many calm mornings and sunny days for the majority of the week, but we also welcomed some heavy rain towards the end of the week. This meant that some of us who prefer running/cycling were forced to try out swimming, so we now have a few additional triathletes among the ranks in the Tron Troopers!

Jason Craig (founder of the 50Km a day challenge) also came up from Nelson for the Track Cycling Nationals so it was good to show him some of our local trails and spin the legs out along the river between Hamilton and Ngaruawahia.

It is about now when it all starts to feel like a bit of a Challenge. We are three weeks in, and can see the end in sight, but the kilometres are becoming more of a challenge. At this point we have to reflect on how far we’ve come, and what we have achieved. Our team are working hard to continuing fundraising for the Philips Search and Rescue Trust and will have some more updates to share next week.

    Bring on week 4!

    Week Two - Ticked Off

2,200kms ticked over this week and over $450 fundraised so well done everyone and thanks for donating too!

The current overall tally for Tron Troopers is 3,926km and $1,450 raised for the Philips Search and Rescue Trust.

This week we were very fortunate to have Jex from the Philips Search and Rescue Trust talk to us online, to provide insights on the day to day lives of the crew, paramedics, and pilots of our rescue helicopters. At almost $10,000 per rescue, the importance of our fundraising was made clear. Hearing some of our own team members share their personal stories of how their family members were still alive today only because of our rescue helicopters, really drove this message home in each of us. It really is a service that we don’t always think about until we need it most, and they are always there 24/7/365 to help us when we need them most.

Our team are working hard to continuing fundraising for these people and will have some more updates to share next week.

    Bring on week 3!

PS – You would think Maria is not only a financial adviser but a professional photographer too! - shown by her amazing photo below from her 10km walk last night 😊

  • The Great Man Murray!

Averaging 300km’s a week and certainly not doing it on the flat, Murray accumulates km's by climbing Mt Te Aroha and hiking the Northern Circuit in the Tongariro National Park. Not only does Murray do some very high km’s each week, he gets the family out with him, he personally has donated significantly to the helicopters, and he also has amazing photos of each trip. Murray really is the full package!

We are very lucky in Hamilton to have the beach on our doorstep, the lake and river throughout our city, and the forest all around us. This week our Tron Troopers team, made the most of our outdoors, adding over 1,700kms to the tally by running, cycling, walking, going to the gym and exercising our way through the first week of the 50KM a Day March Challenge.

The Hamilton Lake is probably the number one location you will see us clocking up the kms, though we also have surfers, kayakers, hikers, cricketers, and everything in between too!
