Fundraiser Marathon for Metabolic Disease

$2,645 of $5,000 goal
Given by 42 generous donors in 8 weeks

Walking the 2017 Rotorua Marathon to raise funds to help people affected by metabolic diseases.

Nationwide

Metabolic disease are genetically inherited chemical abnormalities that causes different diseases. They're rare and generally untreatable. These chronic diseases cause increased costs to families.

Our goal for this fundraiser is to take the pressure off these suffers' families: we want to Ease the Squeeze!

Kylie and Bec are walking the 2017 Round Lake Rotorua Marathon to raise funds to help people struggling to cope with the increased costs of having a metabolic disease. Neither Kylie nor Bec are athletes, but they're doing their best to help raise some money! It'll be a struggle - but they can do it!

We need your support to raise some money, to make Bec and Kylie's ridiculous decision to walk a marathon have meaning. Please help!

-- Who are we? --

Bec Nicol - is a Nurse specialist in the New Zealand Metabolic Disease team. She's an avid animal lover, sports fan, and wine lover.

Kylie McDermitt - is the mum to three wonderful kids. One of whom, Jamie, has mitochondrial disease. Kylie understands the financial and emotional struggles these families encounter.

-- How we'll use your donation --

Metabolic disease causes heaps of unforeseen costs. We plan to use your generous donation to help suffers' families pay for:

Ease The Squeeze Trust's involvement (page creator)

Bec is one of the nurses working with this group of patients and has seen the struggles families go through. Kylie's daughter has a metabolic disease.

Both are committed to helping people in a difficult situation have life just a little bit easier by taking some pressure off from the every day things.

About us

Ease the Squeeze is a trust set up by the metabolic community to support individuals and families meet the everyday needs which, due to their diseases, they struggle to cover.

Often unable to work, due to the illness or the need to care for an unwell child, what was once manageable - is no longer manageable. Bills pile up, the healthy food options are no longer affordable and the quality of life deteriorates.

We did it all.  15 May 2017

So the 6/5/17 saw an anxious pair cross the start line of the Rotorua Marathon. The training hours had been put in - and this was the completion!

Kylie and Bec walked and talked their way around the Lake. It was at times picturesque, hot, and cold, quiet and painful. But we finished and we have the medals to show for it - not to mention the blisters!

Thank you to all the generous donors out there - we are so appreciative and somewhat astounded that we not only crossed the finish line but raised a combined total of over $5000.
